In Victorian and Edwardian England, tea was valuable enough to keep under lock and key, and this oak caddy was built for exactly that purpose. Dating to around 1900, it retains its original hinged lid, working lock, and key, along with a sectional interior that once kept different blends separated. Pieces like this were everyday household objects, made to last by craftsmen who took that responsibility seriously. The wood has developed a warm, deep patina over 120-plus years, and the minor wear it carries feels earned rather than unfortunate. Today it works beautifully as a jewelry box or keepsake chest, and sits naturally in both traditional and collected interiors.
