This H.D. Rawlings stoneware bottle carries the honest weight of Victorian trade in every inch of it. Rawlings was a well-known London drinks manufacturer, supplying ginger beer and lemonade across Britain around the turn of the twentieth century. Their bottles were made to work hard, and this one did exactly that. The salt glaze has the characteristic orange-peel texture, and the impressed maker's mark is crisp and fully legible. Minor surface wear and light staining are consistent with its working life and only deepen its character. It sits beautifully on a kitchen shelf or bar cart, and pairs well with other Victorian commercial pottery or early advertising pieces.
