Brig O' Balgownie has inspired artists for centuries, and J. Beattie Scott captured it with the kind of quiet authority that comes from genuine affection for a place.
One of Scotland's oldest surviving medieval bridges, it was a natural subject for Scott, who spent his career documenting the northeast Scottish landscape with precision and feeling. He served as President of the Aberdeen Art Guild around 1900 and published a catalogue of his etchings in 1917, cementing his place as a serious and respected printmaker.
The plate work is confident and practiced. The lines of a man who knew exactly what he was doing.
This piece is hand-signed by Scott, which gives it real personal weight beyond the print itself. Signed examples from artists of this standing are not common finds.
Hang it alongside maps, portraits, or architectural prints and it holds its own beautifully.
